Life coaching is the process of partnering with clients to help them clarify desired outcomes and create actions and habits to achieve them. As an intensive clinical therapist, life coaching opens up a more creative and effective approach in helping teens reach their full potential and allows for more flexibility and experiential learning.
It's important to understand that there is a big difference between counseling and life coaching when it comes to getting help for your teen. Very often when parents are struggling with their child’s poor behavior you might call on a counselor or therapist. But working with a teen life coach is much different. The simplest way to understand the difference is in this way: A counselor focuses on issues dealing with the past while a life coach focuses on the present and future. One is reactive while the other is proactive.
Although both have their place professionally, life coaching may be more appropriate for that hard to reach teen, or that teen who refuses to step foot in a counselor's office.
